• Applications - Do candidates have to sit an entrance examination if English is their second language?

    There are no requirements to sit an entrance examination, however applicants must demonstrate their ability to study in English at a Masters level.  If on the application form a candidate answers 'No' to ‘Is English your first language?’, or 'No' to ‘Do you have a higher education qualification that was taught and examined in English?’ then they must provide evidence of strong skills in spoken and written English.  If there is not sufficient evidence, candidates may be asked to satisfy IELTS/TOEFL standards (minimum spoken and written scores of IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL BIT 100) but this is not a pre-requisite to apply.     International students are responsible for their own visa applications but we can offer a visa support letter.

  • Applications - Can I start the programme without an undergraduate degree?

    If you do not have an undergraduate degree, you may still be eligible for the programme as we value the knowledge and experience acquired from an extensive professional career. In this case, you would need to demonstrate evidence in your application of appropriate conceptual and study skills and how your experience will enable you to progress and contribute successfully to the programme.

  • Programme information - Can potential participants sit in on a session?

    The complexities of the course mean that a lot of the information participants are privy to is confidential and based on the trust of peers and clients. Attending an open day and talking to past participants is probably the best way to get a feel for what it would be like to be on the programme.

  • Applications - Do I have to be working in an organisation to do this programme?

    Yes, this is a practice-based programme, especially as you will be working ‘live’ with the ideas and theories you learn on the programme and reflect on their effectiveness in your practice.  

    ‘Practice’ comes in different forms and if you are unclear about the validity of your own role this can be further explored with a member of faculty or at an Open Day.

  • Fees - Are there any scholarships/bursaries available?

    Typically scholarships and bursaries are not usually awarded for this programme. However there are a number of ways to fund your studies.  Should you wish to discuss your needs further you are welcome to contact the admissions team at admissions@ashridge.org.uk.

  • Fees - Are you exempt from VAT?

    If you are an individual who pays Value Added Tax (VAT) then you would not be exempt from paying VAT.

    If you own a business:

    1. If registered in the UK then you will need to pay VAT, however you can usually reclaim the VAT paid on goods and services purchased for use in your business.
    2. If VAT registered outside the UK but within the EU we would need your VAT number but you could reverse charge the account.
    3. If outside the EU then there would not be any VAT applicable.

  • Fees - Funding your studies

    There are a number of ways to fund your studies other than taking out a loan. You might wish to consider options such as employer sponsorship and salary sacrifice. If you are an international student then some councils will award scholarships. Please see more information in our Fees and Funding section for further advice on the options available.

  • Programme information - How is the programme taught and assessed?

    The programme is highly experiential and peer learning is as important as any faculty contribution to the programme.  So whilst faculty do direct you towards the theory and content – their main role is to provide the environment for you to learn as a collaborative process with others on the programme.

    Assessment is not typical in that we are interested in three main areas:

    1. How you are reflecting on your work and developing your awareness and patterns of thinking.
    2. How theories are used and their origins in the context of your personal and professional history.
    3. How you integrate your personal, professional and theoretical learning into what you do.

    Throughout your study experience there will be assignments which will be subject to self-assessment, peer assessment and faculty assessment. This is all underpinned by a rigorous academic framework.

    In the final module, you will pull together all of your learning into one action research project which becomes your final dissertation. This dissertation demonstrates that you are able to apply relevant theory in practical ways, that you can show a rigorous process of critical self-reflection and demonstrates your progress as a change practitioner, working in organisations.

  • Programme information - How many hours should I spend studying outside of the classroom?

    As with all academic programmes and journeys of self-improvement, the more you put in the more you will benefit. The Masters in Organisational Change is very much an immersive residential course. However, in addition to attending the workshops, you are expected to complete preparatory work beforehand, which gives you the flexibility to study when you want to. You will need to put in a minimum of 10 hours per week on average which will comprise of activities such as action research, reading of books and articles and preparing for workshop presentations.

  • Programme information - How will my learning be supported?

    Each participant will join Practice Groups for Modules 1 to 3 and will be supported by a Practice Group tutor. The Practice Groups are intended to help you sustain your ongoing learning and action research into your practice.  At the same time, participants bring issues and challenges they are currently facing in their work for support and challenge from their peers.

    In Module 4 you will have a dissertation supervisor and will be part of a dissertation support group.

    You will also have access to an online Learning Zone, which you can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.   From here you can access your online library resources and selected reading material for future workshops. As preparation work is completed outside of your time at Ashridge it you allows to be fully engaged with active and dynamic situations that are presented to you whilst in module.

  • Programme information - What are the demographics of the current class?

    In the 2015/16 class, there are eight different nationalities among 17 students; the average age is 44, with an average of 17 years’ experience.  This is no different to previous cohorts in their being a diverse mix of gender, roles and background.

    The programme is aimed at practitioners and leaders of change, or those who need to develop more in this area and have substantial organisational experience. You will be someone who can be self-reflective and able to look at yourself, your place within the wider organisation and wider context, and how your actions affect change.

  • Programme information - What theories and models of change are followed by the programme?

    The programme includes theories based on social constructionist thinking, complexity theory, relational psychology, holistic science and as you would expect, group and psycho-dynamic theories. More importantly, it focuses on the world view that underpins the way we think about and engage with organisations and change.  All participants are experienced professionals and they tend to bring their own tools and models that they like to work with.
