The core-periphery model of leadership development:Learningfrom critical incidents and hindsight

This paper highlights the importance of developing a leader as an individual in order to develop their leadership potential, and differentiates this approach from the role and task focus that continues to dominate management development in organisations. A model is presented that allows practitioners and professionals to identify whether their current development activities are management development or leadership development driven, highlighting what additional learning needs to be achieved if both are to be included.
