Looking in a Distorted Mirror: Western Mis-perceptions of Eastern Managers

Do our thoughts become our reality? To what extent do we create situations through our expectations? Using a variation of the critical incident technique, we asked managers from Central and Eastern European and South Eastern European (CEE & SEE) countries to describe their interactions with their Western European (WE) and U.S. colleagues. Based on the situations they described, we asked these managers to evaluate the impact on their ability to do their jobs depending on how they thought they were perceived by their WE and U.S. colleagues. Finally, we gathered their input on what both parties could do to make their interaction more productive.
