In these turbulent times we need leaders who are prepared for the unexpected. Today’s successful leaders are able to manage their anxieties in the face of ambiguity and instil confidence in those who follow them.
The Leadership Experience: Leading on the Edge will help you to learn more about yourself by experiencing some of the critical incidents that you are likely to face as a leader over the next ten years.
By practising now, you will be able to rely on your ‘muscle memory’ to deal effectively with these incidents when you encounter them in future.
Content and Structure
Before the residential phase of the program you will:
Have a telephone coaching session with an Ashridge leadership coach to discuss your objectives for the program
Seek a mentor within your organization to support you in your development
Work through the Ashridge Learning Guide on leadership
Keep a leadership journal and gain feedback from your colleagues
The evening before the program starts we gather the group together to meet each other and go through the welcome briefing.
Over the next three days, we aim to accelerate your leadership development by projecting you into the future. During the program, you will take on the role of director of an organization, working with other members of the Board, dealing with various challenges along the way.
The challenges you will tackle are based on Ashridge’s research findings that pinpoint the critical events that shape the careers of current leaders.

Balancing strategic change issues with business as usual
Handling difficult conversations
Dealing with media and public relations issues
Realizing when you need help and asking for it
Balancing work and life priorities
You are assigned a tutor to support you and your peers are encouraged to provide feedback on your strengths and areas for development. The tutors also share insight into how the research was shaped and what this means for your leadership development.
You will have two follow-up personal coaching sessions, usually at three month intervals after the program. The sessions are designed to support you as you take your leadership skills forward and start to experience the critical incidents in your professional role.
You will become a member of the Ashridge Alumni network which is an excellent opportunity to continue your personal development and networking.
You are also given continued access to your online program portal and Virtual Ashridge content for six months after your residential stay. Ongoing support and further learning opportunities are available with Ashridge Momentum.
