Program Overview

You know that people determine the success or failure of a business strategy. This program provides insights and practical skills within the context of leveraging the human network potential in an organization to adapt to changing business conditions and achieve sustainable business success. It introduces a HR Strategic Impact framework and explores it on the following three levels:

  • Strategic - developing the strategic role, impact and influence of HR in a complex adaptive environment

  • Tactical - the way in which HR creates ownership for initiatives with key stakeholders to impact meaningfully on the organization

  • Personal - the way in which HR managers develop and leverage their strengths and courage to enhance personal credibility and impact

Content and Structure


In preparation for your program we ask you to complete an AIMS 360° feedback questionnaire which will give you a clear view of your personal strengths and areas for improvement. You will also have a call with the Program Director to discuss your specific needs.

Residential Phase

The program is delivered through a combination of robust, research-based theory, cases, examples, practical exercises involving group work, coaching, simulations and personal reflection. You will also have a 1:1 coaching sessions with an Ashridge accredited coach.

High Impact HR

  • Challenging HR purpose: responding to emerging challenges through a fundamental examination of the role of HR
  • Aligning business and people strategy: exploring your priorities in terms of the high impact initiatives and HR projects your business needs
  • Mobilizing for action: how to move from strategy to implementation
  • Creating agility in HR and business: using innovative, agile processes to take a look at HR and business challenges

Engagement and Influence in a complex environment

  • How to create ownership (vs getting buy in) for HR /business initiatives
  • Holding real life difficult conversations: practising how to bring your personal learning to life when you return to work

Insights into HR functional processes/best practice:

  • Leadership Development and Talent Management (speakers from best practice in industry)
  • Facilitating organizational change and transformation
  • Leveraging diversity and organizational culture
  • Unleashing talent - strengths/talent (own and others)

Personal insight,  effectiveness and impact

  • Personal influence: improving your personal influence and courage to achieve a more prominent place at the executive table
  • 360 feedback and coaching: exploring your own development needs with external coaches and lead tutors
  • Making a personal breakthrough: via an experience that supports you to move beyond well-meaning intentions towards actually doing something to add value


  • You will have a follow-up personal coaching session, usually four to six weeks after the program, to help you apply your action plan
  • Tutors will facilitate a virtual follow-up session for the group after the program where experimentations and learnings applied are shared in a supportive peer coaching session
  • You are also given continued access to your online program portal and Virtual Ashridge content for six months after your residential stay

Who is it for?

You are a senior HR management professional or line manager responsible for formulating and/or implementing people/HR strategy. You may be a senior HR business partner, responsible for recruitment, learning, and development, have aspirations to become an HR director, or already be one. You will be experienced at working within HR but looking to improve your strategic impact and influence.
