Program Overview

Impact and Influence: Driving outstanding results will enhance your strategic influencing approach, develop your personal impact, and help you harness the potential in your organization.

This highly interactive program focuses on influencing as a key leadership skill for achieving outstanding results. Influencing isn’t simply about what you know, but also about how you work with others, your skill in persuading them to help you, and understanding your organizational context.

Sometimes, your success may depend on co-operation from people over whom you have no line management authority.

You will be introduced to a range of strategic tools and techniques. During the week you will have the opportunity to apply them to your own specific work challenges, using a range of experiential learning approaches.

Content and Structure

Pre-program

Before arriving at Ashridge, we will ask you to diagnose a current influencing challenge you face. You will also complete a Strength Deployment Inventory® 360° feedback questionnaire to identify your personal strengths and motivations and how these relate to those of your colleagues. This will help identify how you are currently faring and will develop awareness of your influencing style.

You will also have access to the program learning portal which has a collection of influencing articles and materials for your personal development.

Residential Phase

Impact and influence model

Over five days you will explore and learn about:

  • The Ashridge Impact and Influencing model: the program process and context, including a personal impact exercise
  • Impactful influencing: understanding the psychology of personal impact and how to enhance your approach
  • Your influencing style: using the Strength Deployment Inventory® tool you will receive feedback on your style and how others perceive you
  • Strategic influencing tools: introduction to a range of tools, techniques and approaches, including the opportunity to develop your skills in practical exercises
  • Achieving results with others: an experiential exercise where participants will work together to reach an effective outcome
  • The organizational dimension: introduction to techniques for dealing with pressure and resistance and developing political savvy
  • An integrative exercise: a practical and experiential process working with participants own issues in a live setting to practise impactful influencing
  • Planning for action: developing personal action plans which can be applied on your return to work.

Post-program

Following the program, you will be sent a series of three articles from the tutor team to support you as you use your new skills back in the workplace.

You will become a member of the Ashridge alumni network, which is an excellent opportunity to continue your personal development and networking.

You are also given continued access to your online program portal and Virtual Ashridge content for six months after your residential stay. Ongoing support and further learning opportunities are available with Ashridge Momentum.
