Research from the Ashridge Public Leadership Centre (APLC)

Public Sector research - APLC research is client focused...

Public Sector research

All Ashridge research is focused entirely on improving the practice of managers and organisations. Our research findings are shared with clients and colleagues, and in a variety of publications, but equally important to us is using our research to impact our programme designs and session content, and overall service we offer to clients. Our aim is to add value by creating insights and practical solutions to the challenges being faced everyday.

The Ashridge Management Index

In 2008, Ashridge and The National School of Government carried out a survey to investigate the characteristics and challenges of managers who are working in the public sector. The survey topics include: Management and organisational challenges; Personal challenges; Employee engagement; Motivation; and Training and development challenges. Results from the Public Management Index are available here.

The 2009/10 Index combines findings across the sectors, and can be accessed here

Prize essay competition

The APLC runs an annual essay competition in partnership with Guardian Public. The main aim of the competition is to learn about key themes from those working and researching at the sharp end of public services, to help drive new thinking in Ashridge’s research strategy, and to share these findings with our clients.

The 2010 essay topic will be announced very soon. Please take a look at our previous competition winning essays

The Miracle Question

The APLC's Deputy Director, faculty member Eve Poole, asked Ashridge faculty and associates if they could have the answer to any question about the publice sector, what would it be. This is a summary of the questions that intrigued them.
